Why walking by Redes Natural Park?
Redes Natural Park , is located in the central -eastern part of the Cantabrian Mountains , south of Asturias , occupying an area of 37,803 hectares .
It was declared a Natural Park in 1996 in order to protect their natural and scenic values , as well as in order to improve the quality of life of its population by adopting measures dynamization and development , especially targeting the maintenance of traditional lifestyles .
In 2001 was declared a Biosphere Reserve by the International Coordinating Council of UNESCO’s MAB Programme .
In short, we speak of a territory whose spectacular, and rich in both natural and cultural values, and the state of preservation in which they are, have been recognized on multiple occasions.
Geological conditions, climatic and biological of this place, and the good state of preservation of their habitats, favor the presence of a high faunal diversity.
Of the more than 208 different species present in Redes now a days, 20 are in the Regional Catalogue of Threatened Species of the Principality of Asturias.
